Warnings from Yahshua Against False Prophets and Messiahs

Hello church family, It is a gorgeous Saturday… Happy Sabbath! Blessings and shalom to our brethren in Yahshua.

Today we’ll talk about how to survive in the age of deception! Yes, it’s the deceptive practices of many in distorting the authentic meaning of the words written in the Bible, whether intentionally or unknowingly.

Let’s be honest. We live in a world where everyone has a megaphone. Between social media algorithms, self-help gurus, and trendy spiritual leaders, we are drowning in information. But here is the million-dollar question: How much of it is actually truth?

Long before the internet, Yahshua the Messiah saw this exact cultural moment coming. He didn’t just drop a casual hint about it either. He issued some of the most urgent, direct warnings in the entire Bible.

If we want to protect our faith and our families today, we need to lean in closely to two specific things He said.

The Danger of the Disguise 

In His famous Sermon on the Mount, Yahshua drops this bombshell: “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.” (Matthew 7:15)

Notice that Yahshua doesn’t say false teachers look like monsters. They don’t wear a warning label. They look like sheep! They sound nice, they use spiritual vocabulary, and they might even be incredibly charismatic. They look like they belong in the flock.

But their internal motivation is destructive. A wolf doesn’t join the flock to fellowship; a wolf joins the flock to eat. True spiritual discernment means looking past the fluffy exterior, the massive follower counts, or the smooth presentation. We have to look at the heart and the theological core of what they preach.

The Danger of the Display 

Fast forward to the Olivet Discourse, and Yahshua turns the warning up a notch. He says, “For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.” (Matthew 24:24)

This one hits close to home because humans love a good show. We easily fall for spectacular displays. Yahshua warns us that in the later days, deception will get highly sophisticated. These religious or spiritual leaders will perform miracles, signs, and wonders.

Here is the hard truth: Just because something is supernatural doesn’t mean it is from Almighty Yahweh.

If a teacher performs incredible miracles but leads you away from the foundational truths of Scripture, walk away. If their lifestyle contradicts the character of Messiah Yahshua, don’t follow them. Our anchor cannot be miracles; our anchor must be the unchanging Word of Yahweh.

How Do We Stand Firm?

So, how do we protect ourselves from the wolves and the counterfeit signs?

It’s simpler than you think. You don’t study counterfeits to recognize fake money; you study the real thing so closely that a fake becomes instantly obvious.

1. Get into your Bible daily. Know the real Yahshua so well that a counterfeit stand-in doesn’t stand a chance.

2. Check the fruit. Look at the long-term character, the humility, and the integrity of the people you listen to.

3. Stay planted in community. Wolves isolate sheep before they attack. Stay connected to your local church body where we can protect and look out for one another.

How to Test People Claiming Themselves as Prophets

The Bible provides specific criteria to identify false prophets.

• Examine Their Fruit: Matthew 7:16 states you will recognize them by their results and character.
• Check Yahshua’s Humanity: 1 John 4:2 confirms true teachers acknowledge Yahshua Messiah came in the flesh.
• Match Scriptural Truth: Isaiah 8:20 instructs to speak according to the established law and testimony.
• Verify Prophetic Accuracy: Deuteronomy 18:22 states a true prophet’s predictions must actually come true.
• Observe Financial Motives: 1 Timothy 6:3–5 warns against those using holiness purely for financial gain.

Punishments for False Spiritual Teachers Mentioned in the Bible

Scripture outlines severe consequences for those who distort spiritual truths.

• Swift Divine Destruction: 2 Peter 2:1 confirms false teachers bring swift destruction upon themselves.
• Eternal Blackest Darkness: Jude 1:13 describes their ultimate fate as the blackest darkness reserved forever.
• Incurring Stricter Judgment: James 3:1 warns that people who teach will face a much tougher judgment.
• Physical Capital Punishment: Deuteronomy 13:5 mandated execution for prophets leading Israel into rebellion.
• Blotted From Book: Ezekiel 13:9 removes false prophets from the council and records of Yahweh’s people.
