Today’s teaching is about the 4 biblical truths of why the world is a vanity according to the Holy Scripture. But before I go further, a blessed greeting of love and peace to all the brethren of the same faith out there. May Yahweh bestow His mercy and grace to all of us, and may His Holy Spirit fill us up with meekness in our heart.

The concept of vanity is a recurring theme throughout the Bible. The term “vanity” is often used to describe the fleeting and temporary nature of the world and its possessions. In Ecclesiastes, the writer famously proclaims that “all is vanity” (Ecclesiastes 1:2), meaning that everything in this world is ultimately empty and meaningless.

Here are some reasons why the world is considered vanity according to the Bible:

1. Material possessions are fleeting

One of the primary reasons why the world is considered vanity is because material possessions are fleeting. As the writer of Ecclesiastes observes, “I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit” (Ecclesiastes 1:14).

No matter how much we accumulate or acquire in this life, it will ultimately fade away and be left behind. In Matthew 6:19-20, Yahshua warns against storing up treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.

Another reason why the world is vanity is because life is short and uncertain. James 4:14 reminds us that “you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.”

In light of this reality, the things that we pursue in this life ultimately do not matter in the grand scheme of things. Instead, we should focus on what is eternal and lasting.

3. Human wisdom is limited

The writer of Ecclesiastes also highlights the limitations of human wisdom. Despite our best efforts to understand and make sense of the world around us, we are ultimately unable to grasp the full scope of Yahweh’s plan and purpose.

As Ecclesiastes 8:17 states, “then I saw all the work of Yahweh, that man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun. However much man may toil in seeking, he will not find it out. Even though a wise man claims to know, he cannot find it out.”

4. Worldly pursuits are ultimately unsatisfying

Finally, the world is vanity because the pursuits that we often prioritize in this life ultimately do not satisfy.

In Ecclesiastes 2:11, the writer declares that “then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labor that I had labored to do; and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.”

Surely, the things that we think will bring us joy and fulfillment often leave us feeling empty and unfulfilled in the end.

In conclusion, the Bible teaches that the world is vanity because of the fleeting nature of material possessions, the short and uncertain nature of life, the limitations of human wisdom, and the ultimate unsatisfying nature of worldly pursuits.

Rather than chasing after these things, we should focus on what is eternal and lasting, including our relationship with Yahweh and our impact on others.

As Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 reminds us, “Fear Yahweh and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For Yahweh will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.”

Yes, the Bible is the ultimate source of moral, ethical, and spiritual guidance. The concept of the world being a vanity is especially prominent in the teachings of Scripture. It is an idea that invites us to reflect on our place in the world and our daily lives.
